Storytellers Macon Board of Directors

  • Koryn Young

Executive Director: Her passion for storytelling started at the young age of 2 when she realized that words matter. She is still learning the fine art, but will take any opportunity to speak in front of a group with a microphone.

Originally from San Dimas, CA, she moved to Staten Island, NY and chilled out there for a bit while she became an adult. Finding her grown up home in Macon, GA brought her a sense of community, and she previously held leadership roles with the Magnolia Soap Box Derby, Bragg Jam Concert Crawl, and developed the Men of Intown Macon Calendar. She is a 2012 Leadership Macon alum and continues to volunteer with many local events, simply because they are cool.

When she is not planning events or hosting with Storytellers Macon, you can find her working as a wedding and event planner, porch sitting with friends and neighbors, or hanging with her main man, Nathan.

  • Julia Morrison

Fine Arts Director: Julia Morrison is a producer and communicator who seeks to activate the civic imagination with arts-based activities and amplify more voices. She’s a fierce believer that artists and culture makers are a driving force towards positive social change. Julia is a Virginia native, born just outside D.C., and landed in Macon working at the intersections between downtown and campus as the Director of Arts Marketing and Community Engagement for Mercer University. This means she represents a number of vibrant arts organizations and venues around the city, to include The Grand Opera House, McEachern Arts Center, McDuffie Center for Strings, Townsend School of Music, Tattnall Square Center for the Arts and associated clients all over town. She loves passionately representing all forms of the arts, from bass players to Broadway to ballerinas.

Outside of work, Julia serves Storytellers Macon as the Fine Arts Director, tells stories on the page as the Managing Editor of Macon Magazine, is a founder of Fire Starters Indigenous Festival and is also on the board of directors of Macon Pride and Big Brothers Big Sisters Heart of Georgia. She has previously served on the board of Macon Little Theatre as Secretary, Downtown Macon Community Association as Chair, and the Macon200 Bicentennial celebration as the marketing chair.

Why storytelling? It’s not just about the telling, but about the listening. More listening will change the world.

He has spearheaded advocacy campaigns to empower Georgia voters, advocating for criminal justice reform, and working towards eradicating Georgia's HIV/AIDS epidemic.

DeMarcus serves as the Senior Regional Organizer for the Human Rights Campaign in Georgia. His main responsibilities include voter outreach and advocating for LGBTQ legislation. In addition to this role, he is also a co-founder of Macon Pride. • Elizabeth Savage

Secretary: Elizabeth Savage is a recent graduate of MGA with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a bartender at JBA, and a lifelong Maconite.

She loves writing, practicing and teaching yoga, singing and enjoying various kinds of music (including musicals). In May of 2022, she presented a series of poems read in front of a live audience at Middle Georgia State University’s School of Arts and Letters. She’s grateful to have opportunities to learn about and from people as a bartender, hear their stories, and share her own from time to time.

“I see storytelling as a tool of empowerment for everyone. Whether one is piecing together their experiences for the first time, connecting with others by sharing their stories, or helping another tell their story, Storytellers Macon creates many uplifting opportunities for Maconites of all backgrounds.”

  • Alyssa Miller

    “Hi!!”

Alyssa Miller was born and raised in a knight-knit family in Decatur, Georgia. She has been working with Storytellers since her freshman year at Wesleyan College when she participated as a featured storyteller for Storytellers Macon Live: Still Bending the Arc. Today, Alyssa is a senior at Wesleyan College majoring in Film and Media Studies, concentrating on Film, Theatre, and Communication. She works diligently as the Assistant Director and Stage Manager for her college’s theatre department. As an aspiring filmmaker, her mission is to help increase representation in the film industry. She wants to see more minorities--including gender minorities, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, and POC--on television. Her favorite movie is probably Wall-E, but she really doesn't know if she could ever pick a true favorite.
