What We Do

And what we’ve done

We’re interested in collecting stories all over Macon. Most often, we share these in live and digital performances, because we believe it’s cathartic to share your experiences with others. Here’s how we facilitate storytelling.

  • Storytellers Presents

Our monthly event at Grant’s Lounge. Each month we choose a topic and a featured storyteller from the community - but anyone can come up to tell a 5-minute story. Always the second Tuesday of every month - socialize beginning at 6:30 PM and stories start promptly at 7 PM.

  • Storytellers Live

These are elevated stage shows we rehearse with a cast of curated storytellers and a musician. Each storyteller develops their tale during a mentoring and listening process with a team. In 2020-2021, we did a season at The Grand Opera House, and then followed up in 2021-2022 with The Douglass Theatre. In 2022-2023, we are working with Wesleyan College on an intergenerational listening series between elders and college students on the topic of race and culture.

  • Workshops

We occasionally hold educational workshops that are free and open to the public on topics related to storytelling. From “Storytellers 101” to getting on the list to be a listening mentor, our Fine Arts Director leads these workshops, which are meant to be in non-intimidating settings for people to try something new. Contact us using the information at the bottom of this page if you want a specific workshop tailored to your group or event. Previous workshops have focused on different age groups, company training, amplifying a nonprofit message, and more.

  • Partnerships

We want to use stories to shine a spotlight on other folks doing good things in the community. Storytellers has brought specific events to grassy lots and museums alike to work with a specific community partner to meet their needs and make sure their voices are amplified louder.
